Policies for Agroforestry Development in Zimbabwe
By E.Govere (ed)
Price:  [Z$205]

The main purpose of this publication is to give the current agroforestry policy status
status of research, extension and training in Zimbabwean organizations that are or
ought to be carrying out agroforestry activities.  It is only when we are clear about
the mandates and objectives of key institutions involved in agroforestry that we
can map out future policies in different organizations in Zimbabwe, consist of mainly
three sections.  The first section deals with agroforestry research policies, the
second section addresses the agroforestry extension policies, and the third section
deals with agroforestry training policies.  Considerable attention is paid to the
impelling (enabling) and impeding (militating) forces that affect agroforestry research, extension and training.  The impeding and impelling forces experienced by the
organizations could be the guiding parameters for curriculum development, extension
and research priorities for Zimbabwes institutions.  The aim of research, teaching
and extension is to weaken the impeding forces and to strengthen the impelling
forces.  By weakening the impeding forces the impelling forces will gain momentum
and agroforestry development activities will rise and be more effective. By
strengthening the impelling forces alone without weakening the impeding forces
the probability of raising the level of agroforestry development is extremely low.
Desides serving as a guide for curriculum development, extension and research
priorities for Zimbabwes institutions, this publication, in itself, is a resource
material for agroforestry instructors, students and practitioners. The problem was
therefore written in a module format to facilitate instruction and learning.
